Our Mission

Sowing Seeds into the Midlands disrupts the school-to-prison pipeline through advocacy, education, and direct services—fostering an environment for Midlands youth to rest, reflect, and reclaim their futures. We cultivate pathways for healing, liberation, and opportunity by addressing key needs such as food security, environmental justice, reproductive well-being, and strong community ties.

Our Vision

We envision a Midlands where every young person—regardless of their background or experiences—is welcomed, valued, and supported. Through restorative justice, strong community ties, and access to essential resources, we work to ensure that no youth feels like an outsider. Instead, they are embraced as vital members of a thriving, just, and sustainable community. Our vision includes a future where youth have the knowledge, resources, and agency to make informed decisions about their bodies, health, and futures.
  • We believe all youth have the potential to flourish

  • it's not a crime to be a kid

Our work with policymakers aims to reform a broken youth criminal justice system on both state and federal levels.

  • mentoring makes a difference

Studies show that positive influences in a young person’s life can lead to higher rates of academic, professional, and personal success and productivity.  The Seeds Mentoring Program provides opportunities for youth and community members to engage and create meaningful and supportive relationships.

  • lifeskills development

Through a series of courses and workshops, Seeds offers a number of opportunities for our youth to develop life skills in a safe space.  Using current events and culturally relevant references, we engage our youth in interactive conversations and exercises that lead to moments of growth and self-awareness.

Our Core Values

  • We operate with transparency, honesty, and a deep commitment to the youth and communities we serve.

    1. We believe in the power of relationships and collective action to create meaningful change. We foster intergenerational connections, ensuring that wisdom, support, and resources flow across generations to strengthen our communities.

    1. We provide space and resources for youth to explore, heal, and develop their full potential. Through reflection and discovery, they identify their core values, cultivate self-determination, and build essential competencies for navigating life with confidence and purpose. We affirm the cultural identities of Black youth, ensuring they have the knowledge and pride in their history, heritage, and community contributions that ground them in their strength and resilience.

  • We prioritize rest as an essential part of justice and healing, ensuring our work is sustainable and rooted in care. We recognize that true restoration requires having basic needs met, including access to nourishing food, so we work to ensure food security as a foundation for well-being and liberation.escription

  • Guided by the South African principle of Ubuntu, "I am because we are," we recognize that our humanity is interconnected. We center community well-being in all we do, ensuring that justice-involved youth and families are not forgotten, but instead embraced, uplifted, and supported as essential members of our shared future.
